I may choose to remain anonymous for now, but there’s no reason not to tell you enough about myself to allow you to decide the reliability of the information I’m posting here… that’s why you came to read this … right? You want to know a bit about me so you can figure out whether I’m to be trusted, or whether I’m just some kook you can safely ignore…
I was born in California in the 50’s… and as quickly as I could, I rectified that error by joining the Marine Corps. Although I still had to spend a few years at Camp Pendleton or El Toro, I also got out of the state to spend a few years in Hawaii and three 1-year tours in Okinawa.
Having spent many hours learning and practicing Judo – Okinawa was a dream duty station – and I honed my vast Japanese language skills until I could fluently ask where the bathroom was. (Otearai wa doku desuka?)
After spending 12 years in the Corps – my MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) was eliminated, and the situation developed where I’d never be promoted again. (They stuck 70+ Staff NCO’s into the same field – creating an “over” field – too many people!) This was unacceptable to me – as I’d made Sergeant in three years, Staff Sergeant in 6 years, and was actually “in the zone” for Gunnery Sergeant when my job disappeared. After efforts to change my job to something where I would still have career prospects failed, I reluctantly left the Corps just 8 years shy of retirement.
I had a friend who was about to retire, and although he was also a Staff Sergeant, I outranked him due to my time in grade. I just found it beyond belief that an older guy, with 8 years more time in the Corps than I – was lower ranked than I was. (He was in the infantry, not a technical field as I was.) I just couldn’t seem to be able to put myself in that same situation – despite knowing that I’d forfeit any retirement benefits.
It seems that I got caught in a time when the government was simply trying to shrink the military… On my last day in the Corps – there were 5 other Staff Sergeants leaving the same day! I’m sure we all had similar stories to tell.
I then used my military experience with telephones to go to work for a private company installing Toshiba phone systems. I’m currently (as of the time I write this!) still working at this firm, over 30 years with the same company.
However, as great as this company is – it has no retirement plan – I can look to the future and see my meager Social Security combined with my savings isn’t going to allow me a very comfortable retirement. Are you in this position?
Having made money in the past with websites online – albeit in hobby niches – it’s time to ramp up my knowledge and experience, and plan for retirement in a few years. I know from previous experience that it takes about 8-12 months for a website to begin ranking well enough to get decent traffic – and this is where most people fail.
Without the solid rock-hard CONVICTION that my time writing posts will be financially profitable, it would be all too easy to give up. How many people can work for 8, 9, 10 months, a year… without seeing any money?
I know that for many people, paying for a course on Affiliate Marketing is going to be their best option – for after you’ve spent $1,000 or $2,000 on a course, it’s difficult to just quit… and you also have fellow course members helping you to succeed.
But it doesn’t take thousands of dollars to earn money online – you can start far more cheaply and still succeed – this is where I hope to help others as I build my own website. You’ll see what’s working, and what’s not. You’ll be able to follow my example and create your own income stream online with the knowledge you’ve spent your lifetime acquiring.
Am I the expert in earning Affiliate income with a website? Hardly. I quite doubt if my total online earnings over several years exceed $5,000… I was often very happy with an extra few hundred dollars a month in a very small niche. But, having learned how to turn words into dollars – I’m going to do this again in a much bigger niche – and ‘Make Money Online’ is just about the biggest niche there is. (As well as one of the most competitive!)
What Should You Do That I CAN’T!
Because of the topic of this website – I can’t – at least for a year or two, do what you should be doing – that is – to purchase a course on Affiliate Marketing. It doesn’t have to cost much, I seem to recall that Udemy puts out a free course. (I was right… see here for the free course from Udemy.) Of course, you get what you pay for…
Continuing education in the field of Affiliate Marketing will teach you what works, what you should be doing, and correcting your mistakes before you make them. You should DEFINITELY be learning through Affiliate Marketing courses…
But I can’t join any Affiliate Marketing sites, or purchase any courses – I have experience in what happens. I wrote a book that I sold on Ebay – a course on the perfect product. And after I wrote it, I bought someone else’s ebook on the same topic. Even though my book had based NOTHING WHATSOEVER on this other person’s book, he was able to show Ebay that I had purchased his book – and was able to take my product down.
I will not ever allow that to happen again. Were I to join Project 24, for example – what would happen if Ricky & Jim decided that this website was sourcing what it teaches based on their paid course? They could talk to my hosting company, and take this site down. And I wouldn’t blame them. But I’m not a member, and will never be a member … at least until this site is already successful in its own right.
So why should you pay any attention to what I write? Clearly, I’m not claiming to earn $3,000 a day – as I see some people do. But I don’t have to be making that kind of money in order to show you which way to go… all I need to be is a few steps ahead of you. And if you’re still reading this – clearly you don’t have your own website or your own online business… so I’m sure you can learn something from this website.
